A/C help

Greenblaze98 on Sun August 12, 2007 11:23 AM User is offline

Year: 98
Make: Chevy
Model: Blazer
Engine Size: 4.3
Refrigerant Type: R-134A
Pressure Low: 100
Pressure High: 100

I have a 98 Blazer and my a/c is blowing hot air. I Added refridgerant and it still blows hot air. My high and low side pressures were both @100psi. My compressor clutch cycled on but never cycled off and makes a high pitched whine that increases with the rpm. Could this noise occur because of no oil.
What could be the cause this and how can it be fixed.

Compressors can fail so they still turn freely but don't compress, looks like you have one of those.

When I replace the compressor what else do I have to replace.

Take the refrigerant out and inspect the orifice tube, if you find a lot of debris on it (very likely) you will need to thoroughly flush or replace the condenser, make some effort to flush the evaporator and lines, in addition to of course new compressor, orifice tube, and accumulator.

This didn't seem to be a variable compressor in the AMA database but on the off chance that it is it may just need a control valve, though with other unusual sounds from the compressor replacing the whole unit would still be preferable.

Are you sure the guages were closed when you took the pressures?? If not, it's leaking into each other giving the same pressure..But if it was closed (wheels on guages) then your compressor is toast. The 4.3 uses the HT6, 4 banger uses the variable displacement compressor..Yours uses the HT6 which is known for leaking, but they to can fail.. With the engine off try turning the center hub, if it turns freely with one finger, the reed valves failed..If you need to replace the compressor I suggest the Seltec or Sanden clone.. Check out The boards sponsor for the replacement. I would change the accumulator and O tube along with a system flush if the valves did fail, but I think you may have a leaker and if the wheels were not closed on the manifold set, that would confirm it..If it was a leaker, just the compressor and O tube needs to be changed..Unless the O tube is full of debris...
