95 ford ranger a/c defrost vents only

Year: 1995
Make: ford
Model: ranger
Engine Size: 2.3l
Refrigerant Type: 134a

i have a 95 ford ranger w/ 135k miles. a/c has worked perfectly until today. I have had truck since '96. nothing has ever been done to a/c. it would blow 34*center vent temp when it was 90* outside last week. You could see your breath inside the Reg. cab. I drive two vechicles. But I drove this truck last week Wednesday and Thursday with no A/C problems. I had my 96 accord in the shop for A/C work at Honda. Long story another thread here.

But when I got in my truck today to drive it home. The speed knob was on speed 3 out of 4. Temp selector was on cold. The mode dial was on max A/C. But it was blowing out of the defrost window vents. A/C compressor is still cycling off and on. But only comes out the defrost vents.

I tried restarting the vechicle. Same thing. I can move the mode dial and nothing happens. If I remember correctly if your turning the dial clockwise, from the full to the right position. It changes from max A/c to A/C to just vent, off, then foot and center vents, Then defrost. Unless I turn it to off. Then the compressor kicks off. If I remember correctly, I use to remember hearing possibly a vacuum changing the vent positions. Not that is not happening.

So how do I diagnose this problem and fix it.

Thanks guys,
I need all the help. I just got my 96 accord a/c working, and now this happens. But this time its not going to the shop.

Check for a broken or disconnected vacuum line under the hood first, then under the dash...Hope this helps.
