Low Blower Output Solution?

jweb47 on Fri August 17, 2007 8:10 PM User is offline

Year: 1969
Make: Chev
Model: Camaro
Engine Size: 350
Refrigerant Type: r134
Country of Origin: United States

Everyone I've ever talked to about this agreed that first and second generation Camaros don't have very good air flow through the A/C vents, even on high. At first I just figured I had some leaky ducts and such. Now I have everything buttoned up, including a new motor with a seperate braided ground wire, all vent doors correctly adjusted/sealed, and all ductwork joints properly sealed. Surely someone has found a fix for this...or not. Anyway, I'm determined to fix this problem, even to the extent of finding a motor with more power/RPM and making it fit. Has anyone here found a solution for this? Thanks

When you apply 13.5 volts directly to your motor with all the vents opened, what is your current draw? This would give an idea what size motor you have. I don't recall the year that blower motors switched from would field coils to permanent magnet type motors, that latter produced a lot more power in the same size housing. In a motor like used in my 92 DeVille, it blasts out pretty good and draws about 22 amperes, so did the motor in like my 89 Continental, a whopping 28 amperes, recall some of the older motors only drawing in the 8-12 ampere range. So find out what you have.

Not really that much difference in the size of the motor, but they have a ton of different mounting brackets, is possible to use your bracket with a much better motor with the only problem of the shaft fitting your blower wheel, but a guy can work around that too.

The motor is made by Siemens (spelling?)...I hoped it was made with current technology but I will check the amps it draws. This is what I was hoping for because I have no idea what they should draw. Thanks a bunch...
