how a 1998 civic system should be

Year: 98
Make: honda
Model: civic
Engine Size: 1.6
Refrigerant Type: 134

ok the system is about 1.5 years old, i installed it myself, as i work on cars for a living, i have been reading others posts, and i am wondering if the system is ok, i know it has an expansion valve, and i am wondering weather the compressor is supposed to cycle while driving, i know it only cycles at idle with low blower speed, and overall i am happy with it, just that when at idle speed in recirc on a medium blower speed, i dont get the cooling i prefer, but i think i may be asking a lot for a system that was in a car, baking in the sun all day and i get out of work, and my 12-20 minute drive home isnt cool enough for me in slower traffic. the car is stickshift. i dont know if there are any honda guys out there, but i know on a hot day if i am holding a speed, as in car not idling, i can do what i want with the blower, and the tempuatur is fridgid. is tis just how they are when they idle? not enought rpms for the system load?

I have a 94 H Civic LX, 5 speed, A/C works excellent at idle (waiting to pick up kids from school) in hot baking sun (El Paso)(vent temps 35-40) could be low on refrig, but would like to see some pressures low and high and ambient temp, check the sight glass behind headlight drivers side, for bubbles, should have none to very little.

My last Civic was an 86 hatch back that I could haul stuff that I couldn't haul in my much larger cars. Had just about the same problems with it, not only taking a long time to cool, but also a long time to heat up in the cold winter months. The interiors of these "small" cars is really quite large, and thought the AC and heater system were toys. Not sure how much was changed in the twelve year difference.

Sure like my 04 Cavalier after having that Honda for years, was 92*F today, switched the AC on in recir mode and the car was cool within a block, same in winter sub zero weather, get hot heat in six blocks. Has to be that 2.4L engine that makes the difference.

ok so i know when i installed the system the evaporator assembly was pre made, and it just had to drop in, well my skeptic self sow the sensor bulb for the a/c about an inch away from the fins of the evaporator, so it would catch the air, well i dunno why but i thought it would be better for it, i pushed it over a little so it was toching the fins of the evaporator, and i am wondering if that makes a difference in the reference temp it is getting. i wonder if i need to go back in there and push it back out how it was. i may be wrong, but it was either the sensor bulb for the expansion valve or it was an electronic temp sensor, i dont remember.
