Year: 1999
Make: Buick
Model: Park Avenue Ultra
Engine Size: 3.8 SC
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Country of Origin: United States
Vehicle has 85k on it. Has a climate control system and continues to operate well. When turning the climate control system off, I hear an annoying metallic sound coming from the clutch area where the serpentine belt is located. If I turn the system back on, it goes away.
I first thought I had a problem with one of the idler or tensioner pulleys but it definitely is the A/C.
Appreciate any advice on what the problem is and how to repair.
Sounds like V5 clutch drag, and be fixed by adjusting the clutch gap..You either have to find someone with the tools to do it (most shops will try to sell you a compressor) or you can buy the tool yourself from the sites sponsor. I 'believe3" you can do it on the car on the Park Ave, which means no loss of refrigerant..Thats a good thing...
E-mail the guys at Ackits.com and ask how much the tool is..I may have the mastercool number here, but I'll have to look for it..Anyway, below is a rough idea how it's adjusted out.. Hope this helps..

Mastercool removal tool is Number 91212 and the installer is 91260 nut and bearing 90458..You just need the removal tool as long as you're carfull not to pull it out to much... Just enough for a business card to fit in the air gap snuggly...Hope this helps..
