Adding Oil to Volvo system

hogtrader on Sun October 28, 2007 8:22 PM User is offline

Year: 1989
Make: Volvo
Model: 740GLE
Engine Size: 2.3
Refrigerant Type: R12
Country of Origin: United States

I replaced the condenser with a new PF type. Can anyone offer advice on how much oil to add back to this system? (6.7 oz capacity)

a. Nothing came out of the hoses.
b. 1.5-2 ozs from accumulator
c. nothing out of the old condenser
d. I DID GET ABOUT 1.5 - 2.0 OZS OUT OF THE MUFFLER ASSY (HIGH SIDE BETWEEN COND AND COMPRESSOR.) This made me wonder if there was too much oil in the system to begin with. The evap and compressor had been rplaced sometime ago.

So far, I only added back 1 oz. to the new PF condenser. (#12-0437C; 14 x 22.5)

Thanks!

I would add back another two to three ounces, but remember that the "only" way to know how much oil is in the system is to completely flush it and add back the correct amount...Hope this helps..
