Year: 1999
Make: honda
Model: accord
Engine Size: 4 cyl
Refrigerant Type: r143

hello to all, just found this site and hope to learn a lot of things by reading and possibly participating. i am a lifelong muscle car builder/enthusiast, and i have bought my first import which is a 99 honda accord for my 16 yr old son about 6 mos ago. it has 160k on the odo. the hvac controls starting acting up a few months ago where it would trip a curcuit breaker (i suspect) and would go dead completely for about 15 minutes at a time. that problem stopped and another one started soon after where the hvac control panel will flash on and off and nothing will work. every so often it'll work for a day or so then the problem will come back. and anyone enlighten me?

First, the blinking light is telling you that there is a code stored. You will need to retrive it. Is the car atc or manual? Could be a bad blower motor drawing to many amps, or when it stops see if it is actually blowing out the defrost..Sometimkes when a low refrigerant code is thrown, it defaults to defrost and gives the blinking light..But you will need to retrive the codes... You can also disconnect the battery for a minute when it happens again and see if it works when you connect it..Of course you may lose the codes, but if there is a problem, it will set new ones... Hope this helps..
