Factory A/C or dealer installed?

Different compressors. Dealer A/C usually had a Sanden 7 series mounted below the P/S pump on the driver's side.

you can check it with a business card, or feeler gauge. Should be around .02. Here's a couple pics..On Ford, you remove the center bolt on the shaft, and there are shims to adjust. add/remove until you get the right gap..Hope this helps..

thanks guys....I can't tell you how awesome this site and you guys are! My compressor is factory installed. So I am going to check to see if it is about .02. The reason I was asking is that it sounds like the pulley is rubbing sometimes and then when I engage the compressor it stops...until it cycles off. What does that sound like to you>>?

Chick,,

Hey were would I get a shim if I need it?

Ford sells them, or a junkyard may give you one or two from a core..But usually the gap widens, so if the pulley is rubbing, you may have a pulley bearing going out. Remove the belt and feel for any play in it... Gap should be the same all around with the belt on... Hope this helps...

Chick, what do I torque the clutch nut back to on my 93 ford f-150

I'm sure they have a torque rating, I don't know it, never used to tourque them, but really, Just make it tight and leave it at that..As my father used to say, a half turn before it breaks.... In this case it's a small hex, so don't snap it...Hope this helps..
