Year: 1996
Make: Mercury
Model: Sable
Engine Size: 3.0
Refrigerant Type: 134A
Country of Origin: United States

Sure hope someone can help me out with this. I'm on the road all day, so when I start out and turn on the A/C it blows ice cold. Maybe for an hour maybe for 3 hours. All of a sudden it will blow warm air. After a few miles it will turn ice cold again. On the highway there's not problem it stays cold. If I'm in the city I may be at a light and all of a sudden it blows warm. After I start driving for a while it will turn cold again. When it blows warm and I shut off the car for a while and go back to it it will be cold.
I've had it checked by a professional and all the pressures are right and it has the correct amount of refrigerant in it. It cycles right , that is, the compressor comes on, then the cooling fans, etc.. What's going on here? I hope someone has an idea. I've been told just about everything from " the orfice is plugged " to "some switch is bad " somewhere. all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks-Russ

when it begins to blow warm, check to see that the compressor is on. A common problem with these is clutch gap adjustment, the hotter it is, the more problems they have. Another common problem is the cycling switch on the low side line, on or near the accumulator. when it stops working try to jump the wires on the switch (remove the plug from the two wire switch and jump the harness with a paper clip) if it starts up again, change the switch.. Let us know what you find..
