'03 International 4300 no clutch

Transman on Thu June 19, 2008 1:31 AM User is offline

Year: 2003
Make: International
Model: 4300
Ambient Temp: 80
Pressure Low: 100
Pressure High: 100
Country of Origin: United States

This may not be within the scope of this forum but I need help. I need a wiring diagram and component locater for this vehicle. It uses a Sanden compressor and I have no clutch operation. I have tested the HP and LP switches. There is another switch on the high side line near the condenser that uses 3 wires, only 1 grey one has continuity to ground. ALL fuses have been checked as well as all found grounds. The other grey wire & green wire have nothing. I cannot find the ac relay or thermal limiter (if it even has one). I replaced the control head as one control switch was bad but this did not solve the problem. Any assistance would be deeply appreciated but I do understand if it is out of your range. International has always been the nastiest for gaining factory info. Transman

The "three wire" switch is usually a pressure transducer, and not being familiar with the wiring diagrams of trucks, it can either work the electric fans, or the compressor. It will give information to the computer which will control compressor operation. I am guessing this is a diesel, so it may have a body control module that receives and sends the information to the compressor relay. (rather than an ecm?) It's a low voltage switch, so don't try jumping it..From what you are explaining, I would suspect the three wire switch, but you may need to reset codes, not sure how on trucks other than disconnecting the battery..

BTW, a truck isn't any different than a car when it comes to AC systems, so the basics do apply, be sure you're getting 12v to the clutch? If you are, try tapping the front hub inwards, if it grabs, you need a clutch gap adjustment, if not, then it's electrical, and the same principles apply (check coil for 3 to 4 ohms) . A pic of the switch and other underhood components, location of the two wire switches, would help... Hope this helps...

PS We are always happy to help you guy over at BAT, you've helped so many people yourselves...Keep up the good work..

Thanks for your responses. The truck is fixed. I got hold of International themselves and got a very helpful tech. He told me how to pull the codes, clear the codes and interpreted them for me. most of the codes were from us testing the system. The problem was a bad connection to that 3 wire switch at a splice that prevented the 5 volt ref from getting there and back to the BCM. After we repaired the connection, it became obvious the switch was also bad as the system kept cutting out while a gentle smack to the switch would cause the system to return. Thanks again, Transman

One more fly in the ointment. Replaced the switch and the system worked but continued to fault on & off. The last problem was a bad connection at the clutch connector itself. We found that previous shop had tested the connectors by probing from the business end of the connectors, bending the female connectors and making poor contact. We had to release several connectors from the weatherpack and bend the spring inside to re-make connections. The system now works as it is supposed to. Transman
The guys at Bat Auto rave about your forum and now I understand why! Thanks.
