What formula to use to determind gauge number

lv6l on Mon June 23, 2008 6:47 PM User is offline

I read that 2.2 x the ambient temperature will give an estimated number of how much your pressure should be at for your car. Well is that formula for the low side or high side?

2.2 - 2.5 X ambient for R134 high side is my understanding.

oh i see. what about for low side? is there a formula for low side?

Low side, non cycling compressor, should be 30psi for R12 and around 28psi for R134a. A cycling compressor will have the low side changing from low 20's to 40's, depending on design, for R134a.

I would like to be able to tell you that but without knowing some particulars such as what make, model, and year your car-truck-train-airplane or motorcycle is and what refrigerant you are using along with the ambient temp and high and low pressure readings it would just be a wild guess.

1994 honda civic. r134a ac system. the ambient temp is around 80-85 degrees F. The low side at idle is about 31psi. and the high side at idle is about 190-200 psi.
