Flushing condenser

rmlanes on Sat June 28, 2008 6:00 PM User is offline

Year: 93
Make: Ford
Model: Bronco
Engine Size: 5.8L
Refrigerant Type: R12
Ambient Temp: 114+
Country of Origin: United States

Never having the occasion to flush a condenser before prompts my question: How much resistance to air flow through the condenser tubes is too much? I am paranoid on this issue due to finding NO oil on disassembly of the system, Did find some very dry black pieces & a very blackened orfice tube (looked Cajun fried)! Flushed the evaporator twice in opposite direction of refrigerant flow (had a little resistance to first flush, none to second) I am comfortable with it. The condenser was flushed opposite to fridge flow as well, resistance to first flush, some resistance to second and about the same the third time around. It is not blocked you can blow through it with no problem ( I am long in the tooth, gray headed & have smoked for 59 years). Just would like to know what you guys think on the condenser! It's a bit warm here in YUMA!

The 93 was the last year of the black death FX15, and it seems your Bronco suffered it. I would change the condenser rather than take a chance..You'll feel better, and your truck will thank you for it.If using R12, use either Mineral oil or a quality ester oil like BVA auto 100 which works just fine with R12 and R134a and your new FS10 compressor..Hope this helps..
