mhfd112 on Wed July 09, 2008 12:32 PM User is offline

Year: 2003
Make: Toyota

I have a leak in a connection in the low side line that goes to the rear evaporator. I'm trying to find out what kind of tool I need to take this connection apart so I can replace the oring. Also, if I add a little oil what kind should I add?

Thanks,

Wow what Ford is saying about them being better than Toyota must be true. Toyota got inspired to copy one of Ford's worst features.

I don't understand that connection either - it appears that there is a plastic housing that you need the special tool to remove. Once removed, does the joint come apart, or do you also have to use the (standard) ford springlock tool to separate the joint?

I'm assuming the connection of interest is the one covered in green slime ;-)

Can't find one locally.

Didn't locate one at Ackits either.

The last one of those I had to deal with got cut out, and replaced with a Swagelok.

One of Tim's inline filter housings would probably do the same job as the Swagelok.

According to the NAPA manual, all Toyota factory R-134a systems use PAG 46.

I believe the guys located the tool. It's special order if I over heard them correctly.

The tool looks like a screwdriver with two pins in the end. Some have a curved shaft to aid access. I made one by grinding the center out of a seldom used stubby flat bladed scewdriver. It looks like a two-prong fork.

Rotate the clip until you can see two parallel slots. They will be perpendicular to the tubing axis. Press the two pins into the slots and the clip releases. Then just pull the tubes apart.
