Too much pressure on low side....HELP!

needhelp on Sat July 12, 2008 12:11 PM User is offline

Year: 98
Make: Ford
Model: Taurus
Country of Origin: United States

What should we do, we have readings of over 100 psi on the low side. So we did not add any refrigerant. How do we get the pressure reading lower so we can add refrigerant? Thanks to all who reply. We just bought this car, its hot outside. We spent all the money on getting the car or we would try to let the professionals do it.

Pressure readings are valid only with the compressor engaged. (They don't have enough room to explain that on the side of the can that comes with the little gauge). See if the compressor front plate is turning with the pulley. If not, find out why. Could be an issue of the clutch gap or an electrical problem. You have enough refrigerant for now. Do not try to add any. Don't use the cheap single gauge in any case. You can overcharge because iyou have no idea what the high side pressure is.
