leak or restriction

hondawing81 on Sun July 20, 2008 7:29 PM User is offline

Year: 1999
Make: ford
Model: windstar
Engine Size: v6
Refrigerant Type: r134
Ambient Temp: 85
Pressure Low: 70
Pressure High: 350-400
Country of Origin: United States

i hooked up my manifold to this vehicle and when the compressor engaged the hi side wnet to 350-400 in less than a minute and the lo side never got below 70, then the clutch disengaged and this repeated it self every time the clutch engaged. I told the owner of this vehicle that this was caused by either a leak in the evap or a restriction in the oriface or accumulator. the fans were on and there was good air flow thru the radiator and the condensor. i instructed the owner of the van to take it to a local shop, have the system evac'd and find out how much freon is in the system. what do u think

no leak there... But a restriction is possible, would help to know more about the system. , Was anything added before the pressures went up? like sealer, or even to much refrigerant? a lot of DIY'er are adding all the magic on the store shelves and not telling the techs.. Have them pull the O tube and check it..
