Hello All,

I am new at this with limited experience, so please bear with me. A/C stopped working so started to check around and found a part missing from the front of the compressor. I believe it is called the hub and disc, but I am not real sure. I've do not know how to attach the pictures I took, but my best attempt to describe it is that there is only the pulley where the belt goes and nothing in front of it. You can see the shaft where you could bolt up the triangular part (hub and disc??) but that part is not there.

If you could please help identify the type of compressor I have and the part that is missing, that would be a great help. Is this the reason a/c does not work? Pump does not engage and did jump the low pressure switch before finding that a part of the compressor was missing.

Any advice or tips will be greatly appreciated. Also, directions on how to attach pictures would really help me illustrate what I am talking about.

Thanks in advance!

Brandon

Does it look like the one in this pic? it's from the 2.0 escape, but in any case, you lost the front hub/clutch driver.. I've seen that a few times with FS10 compressors. You can either buy a new clutch assembly or stop in a wrecking yard and buy a used clutch driver from one of their old cores, along with the 8mm bolt that holds it on..You will need the shims from the donor compressor as well, and set the gap around .02..Hope this helps..

PS: If you change just the outer clutch driver, there is no need to discharge the system as long as you can reach it..Try to get one that isn't wron to much, and re check the gap after a week or so of use to see if the gap opened up from wearing into your compressor.. "Any" FS 10 clutch driver will fit, (explorer, taurus, sable etc) even some older Fx15's will work, but they have two different spline sizes..

here's a couple pics of the front of the FS10..Some have three rubber dampining lugs on them, but they are not necessary for your repair, some cars don't have room for them anyway...

This is where the shims will go to adjust the gap

This shows the bolt that holds it on...Hope this helps..

Chick,

Thank you very much for the response! The front of the compressor I have looks a little different because it is from a 3.0 liter, perhaps? In any case, I was not able to attach a picture to this site, so I emailed you with the pictures. I am hoping to find something at a used parts joint, but if not will order it from ACKits.com You guys are awesome! Thanks for the help!!

Ideally change the pulley at the same time. Whether you use new or used you want to keep the pulley and driver plate a matched set since they wear into each other. Pulley is changed by removing the snap ring and pulling the pulley/bearing assembly off with a gear puller.

I'll post the pic for you..The first pic I posted is what is missing as I thought. I've had a few like that... one 8mm bolt holds it on, and it's shimed for the proper clutch gap..Hope this helps..

I have taken several clutch assemblies off of Ford products that look like this. Never needed a puller. Sometimes a chore to get at the snap ring.
