the vent temp is ok. the problem is a bad rattle in the compressor ...its a panasonic/matsushita rotary vane compressor remanufactured by 4 seasons..i flushed out the old oil and installed 8 ounces of mineral oil. i was thinking the compressor might not have enough oil in the sump cause i took off the compressor and poured some oil out when i accidentally put in too much ..i vacuumed the sytem a good half hour then charged it up with R12 cans.. there is 8 ounces oil in the system and about 28 ounces of R12...any ideas to get rid of the rattle ? original problem was a leak in the compressor shaft seal. i lost the full charge of R12

Check all the pullies for a bad one, just to be sure it is the compressor. Does it rattle with and without the AC on, or just with the ac on? Best way to get rid of the rattle if it's the compressor is to get one from here and get rid of the four siezons compressor..Did you change the expansion device and drier/accumulator??

its the compressor for sure.. the line gong to the evaporator with the orifice tube vibrates like hell..i replaced the accumulator and the orifice tube at the same time as the compressor..if i accelerate the noise goes away for a bit then it comes back noisy as ever at idle..its so bad im afraid to use the ac
