what would cause a new compressor to lock up.

Year: 79
Make: VW
Model: Rabbit
Engine Size: 2.0 16V
Refrigerant Type: r134

The system was COMPLETELY overhauled with all new components roughly 3-4 months ago.

only thing not new was the evap which was flushed.

A/C has been perfect up until yesterday. Driving to school I heard a supercharger type whine but the a/c still functioned fine.

Last night coming home from work it was fine. A/C nice and cold.

Went to drive to work today...a/c whined then screeched then stalled the car. The comp locked up and the dryer peep hole was black!

What would cause a system to go from completely functional to complete trash so quick?

I plan to rebuild the system but I don't want this to happen again!

Thanks,

Jason

Lack of lubrication is the number oner cause of compressor failures.
