Is a CPS LS-780B leak detector a decent product? I can get one for a really good price so I'm tempted but thought I would ask here to find out if they're okay.

Thanks, Scot
It is not bad unit but there are better options available.

I like the LS 790B more, I have one myself, but have you checked out the leak detector on this sites tool page? Quality may come at a higher price, but really not much more and you'd be helping the site that helps you..Electronic leak detector You should always ask the site's owner before posting a link to another tool store, just my opinion though....
Could be you didn't realize that Ackits.com also sells quality AC tools and equipment??

Oops, didn't really think about posting the link. I just hadn't heard of CPS before and thought it might be an unknown off-brand that wasn't familiar to the pros. I do know that ACKits sells stuff...they already have a lot of my money. . I hate buying cheap tools, even when I know I won't use them much. This leak detector I can get for pretty much free so, if it's decent, I should probably get it.
CPS makes a good leak detector, just that the 790 is better, more bells and whistles, but you can never beat free... The 780 will work fine for the DIY'er..
Good luck with it...

I have the 790b, bought it from Tim three years ago. For a DIY'r I find the sensitivity setting to be too granular. You can set it between 1 to 10 which to an inexperienced DIY'r could be overkill. Just my opinion.
I like the CPS but if I were going to buy a new one today I would consider something else. The CPS unti just seems to awkward with the long flexible probe clunky body.
Dittos to Glennt. I had a 790 for a while and found it was awkward to maneuver the body of the unit in the confines of the engine compartment.
And the tips were expensive.......
