Refrigerant R134a American or Chinese

abbouddi on Fri March 06, 2009 2:40 PM User is offline

Year: 2006
Make: Mazda
Model: 6
Engine Size: 2000
Refrigerant Type: R134a
Ambient Temp: 35
Pressure Low: 18
Pressure High: 230
Country of Origin: Saudi Arabia

Is there any difference between American made refrigerant R134a and Chinese made? I heard that the chinese made may hurt the compressor. I will use the chinese in my system because I want to use small cans in order to have the exact weight, and cans available here are only Chinese. Please anybody to confirm

Do the labels state that the product meets any purity standards? "ARI 700" and "SAE J2776" are US standards. The EU and other countries must have their own too but I didn't find them easily.

Of course the Chinese can print whatever they want on a can though it may not be true.

Refrigerant is a global commodity. The "non Chinese" brands may have actually started as a shipload of R-134a made in China, repackaged into small cans somewhere else. If the final company is reputable and willing to label it as being pure it should be pure.

Do a search on this site about R134a Chinese, I seem to recall a thread that showed the 30 pounders filled with everything, but labeled R134a.. Ok, I don't trust the Chinese...sorry...But if you have access to a refrigerant identifier, I would certainly test it...

It's impossible to say. Those cans don't give me a lot of confidence. The label doesn't even state the net weight, or the manufacturer's name.

Come on the cute little bear does not inspire confidence?

"Empty cannot be used again, but the suction can."

Huh?

It doesn't even have the type threads on top for the adaptor, which R134a cans have. it's more like the old R12 cans.. Who knows whats in them.. Could be pure virgin R134a, could be a mix of anything, this one screams for a refrigerant identifier if it was in the USA...

Looking at the cans I had around (National, Weitron, and a couple of Duponts), only one of the Dupont cans mentioned ARI 700 and SAE J2776. The others have a lot of words about safety, the DOT number of the can, CAS number, etc. but no claims of purity.

"Turn disk clockwise and clockwise to load air and clockwise to load air and clockwise to stop." Uh-oh. How do I stop it? OK turn clockwise?
