Tubing size within a condenser?

Dave in Texas on Tue April 07, 2009 9:14 AM User is offlineView users profile

I'm just curious about the inside-diameter measurement of the tubing. When I see '6mm construction' I figure that means outside-diameter tubing? If that is correct, what would be the inside-diameter? I don't have a problem, only curious....thanks

Any 6 mm tubing I have measured was a 1/4", standard wall thickness is about a 1/32nd" so the inside diameter would be about 3/16". My latest and greatest double flare tool is all in metric, but my micrometer tells me it's all fractional inch.

Now I see tubing on the store shelves specifying ID instead of OD that was the standard for years, only problem with the damned stuff, can't find any fittings for it, think the entire world is going nuts. Who cares if it's English or metric, as long as it fits and doesn't leak when you are done.

Thanks Nick. That ID size is in the same ballpark I was thinking of. I prefer SAE, but that ship may have already passed. We buy so much from metric-using countries nowadays.......
