How much oil to ad if any

ldj1002 on Thu April 16, 2009 12:45 PM User is offline

Year: 2005
Make: dodge
Model: Stratus
Engine Size: 2.7
Refrigerant Type: 134
Country of Origin: United States

Just put in another engine in this car. Had to remove compressor and lost all the 134. Only lost what oil that might have came out when 134 was lost. Didn't pour any from compressor or any condenser. Should I need to ad oil? How can I tell without flushing everything and starting over. BTW ac was working good.

Unfortunately, there is no way of telling how much oil you have or if you are lacking any certain amount in the system without flushing everything and starting over.

How long was the system open? My concern if left open for a day or more would be the PAG oil attracting moisture. In that case I would flush the system and replace the accumulator/drier. If only open for a short time, adding .5 ounce would not hurt in this case.

Thanks. It has been open 4 days and plugged where trash couldn't get in. Of course I guess that wouldn't keep moisture out. I do have a good Yellow Jacket vacuum pump. Still recommend flush etc.?

Judgment call, if you're in a dry climate you might get away without flushing!

I don't understand, doesn't putting the system under a high vacuum for a while cause all the moisture to boil out, including that which is mixed within the oil?

Flushing an auto a/c system is not to be compared to an evacuation of the system.
