Need help with 99 F250 AC

F250 on Sat April 25, 2009 2:23 PM User is offline

Year: 1999
Make: Ford
Model: F250
Engine Size: 7.3
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Country of Origin: United States

First time posting here, great site! I need some help with my F250 ac system. I purchased the truck two years ago and noticed that the ac was not getting cold at all when turned on (fan blows normal). I then discovered that the condenser core in the front of the truck had been dented badly and there were several crackes and slits in the core tubes. Obviously all the refrigerant had leaked out at some time ago(the truck was like this when I bought it). Since it has no 134a in it anyway, I was going to go ahead and replace the condenser myself with oem replacement.
My questions are: The Ford service manual says to add PAG12 oil to the condenser upon install. But I noticed plugs on the line holes on the new condenser and was wandering if it comes preloaded with any PAG 12 oil? Also should I plan on replacing all orings as well, since they have sat stagnant for so long? I was also advised that I should replace the Accumulator/Dryer since it has been exposed to moister due to the cracks in the condenser. Is this a good idea as well? The main problem here is that I can only assume the ac system worked well before the condenser cracks, because I did not own the vehicle at the time of the leak. So I may be replacing more items as well. Thanks for any help or tips.

While it is empty now take the o-tube out and inspect it for metal debris. This will give you some idea of the compressor condition.

Except for compressors, new parts arrive clean and dry with no oil in them. The shipping caps are to keep moisture and dirt out.

PAG oil absorbs moisture rapidly and you should try to change as much of it as you can. If you're not going to do a complete flush, at least take the compressor off the truck and work new oil through it. A new accumulator - drier is of course essential.

Put new o-rings on all the connections you take apart. General replacement of every o-ring might cause more problems than it solves.

So if I put on a new acc/dryer and condenser on, should I hold of on adding any oil if I plan on taking the truck to a shop for the flush, re-charge, leak test etc.? I will be installing the parts but leaving the charging etc to the local ac shop.
