10PA/15c clutch

deanno on Mon April 27, 2009 11:34 AM User is offline

Year: 93
Make: mitsibushi
Model: pajero/montero
Engine Size: 2.5td
Refrigerant Type: r12
Country of Origin: United Kingdom

My clutch wouldn't engage so i removed the pulley assembly and found the clutch drive and pulley were covered with slight rust. If i energise the coil it will hold a screwdriver so i assume the coil is ok. If i cleaned off the rust would this help pull the clutch in or has the coil lost some off its "pull". Been looking for a replacement coil here in the UK but not had any luck.

Make sure the clutch gap is around .02. Rust usually cleans itself right off when the compressor starts. Clutch gap most likely problem as I see it Hope this helps..

Hi, i know there is only one shim in there. Not sure of size will have to measure. Could i make a shim from an old credit card etc.

Thanks

Take the shim and go to a dealer or even a junk yard and see if they'll give you a thinner one, you might even see if the clutch hub will go on without the shim and not touch first. That of course would only work if it's worn enough.. Parts stores may even sell the shim kits, although most counter people won't know what you're talking about.. Best to show them. You can make your own, but not out of plastic, besides, the credit card would be to thick, you want thinner to close the gap..

Remove the thick shim and use thinner shim to close gap.....

Took your advice and left out the shim and it works perfectly, nice satisfying clunk as it engages, Thankyou. Could i ask another question of you. I have slight play in the bearing, you can't see it with the eye but you can feel it.
