can i use this A6 compressor?

autotester on Sun May 17, 2009 3:45 PM User is offline

Year: 1974
Make: Cadillac
Model: Deville
Engine Size: 7.7L
Refrigerant Type: R12
Ambient Temp: 60
Pressure Low: na
Pressure High: na
Country of Origin: United States

The A6 compressor has been stored for four years and kept dry. Is there any way to check if this compressor is still good? I tried to drain the oil out of the compressor but none came out. How much oil should I put in? I can turn the pulley freely by hand, but the clutch will not turn. Should the clutch turn freely too? Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like it could be seized, hard to tell from here, but yes, the clutch should also turn. Check out 74 deville compressors for options.. Hope this helps..

Thanks for your reply Chick. Okay you say it sounds like it could be seized. Is there anything else I can do to be more certain that it is or isn't seized? Thanks

Try turning the clutch with a ratchet on the shaft nut..
