Can Pag-46 oil be stored when opened

LH123 on Tue June 02, 2009 2:37 PM User is offline

I have a year old bottle from AMA, need to add a bit, should I get new? Is it hygroscopic?

I would use new since the bottle has been opened.

Use a new one, PAG oil is like brake fluid, hygroscopic( abosbs moisture, you DO NOT WANT MOISTURE in the AC)

LH123:

If it is not DEC PAG, then it is probably wet. Use it for cutting oil, it works great for that. Mix an ounce or two of your old PAG with a pint of water & put it in a trigger sprayer. Keep it near the drillpress...

Thanks, will get new, not gonna risk for few bucks.

The cutting oil sounds like a good idea, will make my bits last longer....

If it is DEC PAG, is it safe to use? I've seen the write-up with the frozen non-capped oil, but that wasn't long-term. Do you have any idea how long is too long to keep it around?
