evap screen ?

Year: 1995
Make: chevy
Model: 1500
Engine Size: 350
Refrigerant Type: r134

Recently took the evap out of my 95 chevy truck, noticed a fine mesh screen attached on the side that air comes out of (drivers side). It seems to greatly hinder air flow,
and I would like to remove it but I don't know its purpose. Is it for slowing down air flow through the evap to allow for greater cooling ? what is this thing ?

It keeps water from blowing into the duct system.

Thanks, I'm glad I asked, do you think I can run without it ?

Your call but they are there for a reason. I can't imagine it restricting the air volume that much unless someone replaced the water screen with a different material.

I would say the engineers put it there for a reason. If you remove it you maybe like TRB says get water inside or some other thing.
