A/C leak

I recently had my 71 Chevy converted to R-134. I have a leak at the low pressure 134 adaptor. When I take off the cap, it is leaking at the schrader valve. When he installed it, it was leaking and he installed a second valve. Still leaks and I cannot fully seat the 134 freon charging adaptor. I have tried two charging adaptors and both leak. It almost seems like he tightned the 134 adapter too tight.
What do you recommend? Do I need to get a new line and 134 adaptor or?

Where are you getting these adapters and what are they made of? Do they come with valce cores or not?

The adaptors were part of an R-134 conversion kit. The adapters are made of aluminum and not sure about the valves. I didn't install them.

The Interdynamics or Quest tall aluminum low side adapter has only a plastic gasket in the bottom and the only one I've ever used, leaked. The gold-toned steel ones sold by AMA, or you should be able to find them locally at finer parts stores, are much better.

Don't use the conversion kit in a box either. Experts here call it the "death kit" for a reason. Stop using the system until you do a proper conversion.

If you still are running have your original drier from 1971, not only is it completely exhausted as a drier, it's likely to be the type that is made of materials incompatible with R-134a. The desiccant bag inside will dissolve when R-134a hits it. That will of course cause major problems.

Those are the cheap ones try and find the steel or brass ones with a valve core. Then remove the valve core on the service port before installing the retro fitting.

I agree, I only use the brass ones Ackits.com use, they have their own shrader valve, and you remove the R12 shrader before installing them.. Much better, never had a leaker with "quality" conversion fittings...

Opps, I meant the steel ones from Ackits.com, brass was the older first ones they came out with...

Thanks to all that provided me with the info that I needed. I will have the adapter changed to the brass or steel with a new valve incorperated with the adapter. Thanks again.
