Transducer Leak

Big3 on Sat July 18, 2009 9:45 PM User is offline

Year: 2004
Make: Dodge
Model: Durango
Engine Size: 5.7L
Refrigerant Type: 134a

I used dye to test my 2004 Durango for leaks as it seemed to have a small leak. I could not locate any sign of a leak and by chance I pulled the wire harness off of the transducer (pressure sensor) mounted on one of the refrigerant lines. There was a trace dye inside the connector (inside each of the three holes on the female side plug and on the tips of each of the three wire pins sticking out of the transducer connector. I used a magnifying glass and the U/V light to look at the tips of the pins. I could not beleive that they seemed to have a hollow core sealed with solder. There was dye from the tip of each pin going down about 1/8th" from the tip. It was not leaking around the threaded seal. Has anyone heard of a leak from the tips of the pins in a transducer? Seems strange.

We call that "wicking" not common, but yes it happens...
