HR6HE High Pressure Switch

indytex1 on Mon September 28, 2009 11:23 PM User is offline

Year: 1992
Make: Buick
Model: Century
Engine Size: 3.3L
Refrigerant Type: R-134
Country of Origin: United States

The vacuum test has failed on the compressor leading to the ordering of a replacement. The replacement, refurbished, is laid out the same as the old one except it doesn't have a rear mounted, within the compressor housing, high pressure switch. I found what the missing part is in a reference picture.

Can I do without the switch? If not, what will it take to added to the compressor that I have purchased?

There should be a plug in the switch port of the new compressor. Remove the plug, and move the switch over from your old compressor. The switch or plug is held in with a snap ring.

In theory, yes, HPCO should never kick open, but if your condenser gets plugged with debris, instead of your compressor shutting down, your system will blow up. So not a bad idea to add one. Don't forget a new O'ring.

NickD and mk378,

Thanks for the help and confirmed what I was thinking. I had read about the reason that it is there and understanding that R-134 has tendencies to have a higher pressure than R-12 it seems reasonable to move the switch.

Thanks again,
