Will MC Evaporator Kit 10020 work in a Westfalia?

hisport on Fri November 27, 2009 11:31 AM User is offline

Year: 85
Make: VW
Model: Vanagon
Engine Size: 3.3
Refrigerant Type: R12?
Country of Origin: United States

I'm in the middle of working up an AMA parts list for my westfalia AC project, and noticed the #10020 evaporator/blower kit.

Measuring, this might fit (at a 45 degree angle) under the dash.

I need some advice (per my earlier post 11/25).

- Does this unit have sufficient capacity to cool a Vanagon?

- Can I use in conjunction with the OE rear overhead evaporator?

- Assume would require aux condenser?

- 45 degree mounting OK?

- Any place on line to get detail specs on this unit?

Tks,

john

You need to be careful on how much angle you have as the condensation would flow back into the blower motor. Capacity wise as a stand alone unit it would not keep up with the volume of a mini van. If used in combination with a rear evap it should work OK.

BTU capacity, electrical rqmts, user manual, warranty, inst manual - just the usual.

TRB- are you with AMA/AC Kits? If so. I'd be glad to call.

Never calculated a BTU but my guess would be around 20000 BTU. BTU is not really a stable factor in auto a/c as it changes with each RPM and with the variable air flow across the condenser. Tap into an 30amp power source which turns off with the key. Defective parts only 6 months. If you send us an email request we can provide a PDF on the instructions. It's an under-dash unit so a few mounting brackets on the sides and rear, 2 drain tubes, power and ground wires.

I want to be clear a 45 degree angle is too much and could allow water to flow back not the blower motor. It this hap[pens it would not be covered as a defective item.
