I have a 80' 3/4T Chevrolet truck. The previous owner had installed a Sanden 508 compressor, at some point. That compressor was seized. I believe, originally this truck had the R4 compressor, which I understand has it's problems.
Should I purchase another 508? Is it a good replacement for a R4? Similiar pumping capacity? I will be using good ole R12. Appreciate the help and suggestions. Thanks
Wait for a professional response, but I'd guess that using a Sanden 508 will be a lot easier since the mounts are now set up for this compressor, as is the hose manifold mount.
And R4 compressors don't seem to last that long, ask me how amny I've been through in my 88 (R-12) and 94 (R134a) Suburbans.....
Sanden or Seltec would be the best choice.

If staying with a Sanden, replace the 508 with the 510....it works much better with the extra heat load of your truck. Used the 508 with a Ford F100 back in the day....never cooled just right...exchanged for the 510 and never had another issue.
Good luck !!!
