Orifice Tube question

Turbo on Sat May 22, 2010 12:09 PM User is offline

Would I be correct by saying changing to a smaller o-tube in a system will lower the low side and raise the high side? It wil also slow down the amount of liquid going to the evaporator?

If it was a liquid loop; in theory, yes. But in a vapor compression system there is much more to consider; such as phase change, refrigeration performance, and lubrication. Reducing the orifice could possibly lower the evaporators ability to remove heat, increase the heat load on the condenser, and restrict lubrication flow to the compressor. There is a lot more to analyze and test (test, test, test, test...) and it requires a lot of give and take (banging head against wall-trial and error-been there done that) to determine the best/correct fixed orifice size for given system.
