Insulation of cab!

bigkev on Mon July 19, 2010 4:34 PM User is offline

What do you guys use as insulation to add to a vehicle? I noticed in my truck it doesnt have a head liner and the roof is almost 110 degrees on the inside when parked for awhile. Its like a giant heater above my head.

My F100 didn't come with a headliner, but that is pretty-much only a piece of cloth. There are HL kits and auto upholstery folks can do the job, but I doubt it would do much good as far as insulating against heat/cold. I just crack my window to let the Hot out....I'm open to suggestions though.

hey bigkev, Not sure what year or the condition of your truck is--- now don't laugh- but several guys here recommended painting the roof top white and the results were much cooler temps inside. A quick fix that produced immediate results. Think about it!

You can use the Reflectix insulation, it is basically aluminum faced bubble wrap. With the two radiant barriers & the air gap it works well. The inside of my camper shell is lined with it.

Places like Lowes carry it.

Kev,
Re: "How to Air Condition Your Hot Rod" available on Amazon just over $17.
Chapter 6 "Keeping Your Cool" Reducing Heat Loads... and Noise
This chapter deals with roof insulation and complete interior insulating and sealing to improve A/C cooling performance to reduce heat conduction convection and radiation into the cabin.
Brad,
How does the insulation work out for you when you are in the dog house? ( Put two 40 cal S&W slugs in a 3' rattler on Mon. in Lanno)

Tex:

The insulation is more for warmth when I am waiting for a 'yote to show his rotten self on those cold winter nights... When I am in the doghouse I just use one of the 200,000 rooms available on the strip!
