Does EEVIR have to be re-calibrated for R134a

Year: 1976
Make: Pontiac
Model: Firebird
Engine Size: 455
Refrigerant Type: r134a
Country of Origin: United States

I want to try R134a in my 1976 Firebird and it has the EEVIR and I understand that there is a little difference between a VIR and EEVIR and that for R12 the EEVIR is supposed to work good but does it need to be re-calibrated for R134a? My car has the EEVIR on it now.

Hi BG1- Please-stay with the r-12! Others here will tell you the same thing.Yes, there is a slight difference in the two VIR units. the later EEVIR eliminates o-rings internally and has a passage drilled between the valves for more rapid response to pressure changes. You have a lot of work ahead to convert to 134, and you will spend a lot of time and money to convert, and you will not be happy. There is no adjusting the POA valve in a VIR unit, though some have claimed success. R-12 is still readily available. Keep it original.
