can compressor pulley be changed from V belt to rib?

hardbody on Wed November 24, 2010 1:30 PM User is offline

I have a chance to pick up a brand new surplus compressor but it is from a different Nissan car, it appears to be the same as the one for my car (sentra) but it has a V groove pulley and mine has the rib pulley, can the pulley's be swapped? Reason I'm asking is because the surplus compressor will be a really good deal and I have not had good luck with re-manufactured compressors as the one that just crapped out on me is my 3rd in 3 years.

this is the Sentra compressor:

this is the other one:

Depends on the shaft/splines and manufacture. Many "surplus" compressors are leftover stock or import suppliers. What might work being OEM to OEM might not work being OEM to china.

are different NVR140S compressors usually the same just the pulley setups are different? The one I am looking at now is also a rib pulley but from a different model car, pic below:

Om my experience with those compressors, Like a 97 Maxima gpt instance., we have to see it before we can sell one..exactly the same, but the lines won't work...so use care before you buy it..even though they look exactly alike, the lines may not fit the holes in the compressor.. Nissan changes them mid year sometimes....

Thanks, deal fell thru as they realized they sold the last one a few weeks ago, so I ordered a rebuilt one today.
