possibility of upgrading my AC system?

Model: 560SEC
Engine Size: 5600cc
Refrigerant Type: 134a
Ambient Temp: 110F
Country of Origin: U.A.E.

Hey All

It seems that I have leak in my AC system and so far it doesn’t seem to be from under the hood. This makes the evaporator a suspect and obviously means removing the dashboard.. I was wondering since am going to go into so much trouble, is it possible to upgrade the AC system and how? is it possible to have a larger evaporator? would having a larger condenser help? if yes, what else needs to be changed? any recommendations on what evaporators\condensers to use?

Before the leak, the AC worked OK but when sitting in traffic.. AC performance reduces considerably (add a second radiator fan?)... and in country that hits 110F easily in summer.. not very nice.

I am a beginner and probably not the best thing to DIY.. but I do not trust the local mechanics so I just want get some knowledge before venturing into anything

Thanks for your help in advance.

As far as updating the evap. You will be restricted on space. Unless a system was designed with a under sized evap. That type of up grade is not usually needed.

In your climate, upgrading the condensor / condensor airflow is the answer.

If the evaporator is leaking, replace it with a quality part. No space to upgrade that part anyway. Before you tear the dash out, I would do a recharge & dye check. After a week or so, check the evaporator drain tube with a black light.

If you want more performance, especially stopped in traffic - you need more airflow over the condensor. I doubt there is room in that car for a bigger condensor, but a more effective style might be fitted.

Thanks guys

Bohica ill do a recharge and dye as you said .. its gonna take time since it took about 3 weeks to leak out last time.. do you recommend specific condensers (brand or type)?

3 weeks is a good sized leak. I would add an extra ounce or two of oil with that dye, then go looking for oily, glowing spots. If nothing can be found underhood, check the evaporator drain tube.

In an aird climate there may not always be enough water condensed on the evaporator to carry dye out the drain tube. Leakout in 3 weeks should be big enough to find readily with an electronic leak detector.
