Does expansion valve tonnage matter?

somedude01 on Mon August 08, 2011 2:09 PM User is offline

Year: 1990
Make: Honda
Model: Civic
Engine Size: 1.6L
Refrigerant Type: R-134a
Ambient Temp: 90-95f
Pressure Low: 40-45
Pressure High: 220-240
Country of Origin: United States

This is kind of a followup to my previous post, as I may have figured out my problem.. I unknowingly used a 2 ton TXV instead of the 1.5 that the ackits site calls for in my car.. My symptoms are poor cooling and the low side never gets below 38. Vent temps NEVER get below 56f, doesn't matter if it's morning, raining or at night.75f or 95f, it doesn't cool below 56f vents. However, the system will easily and quickly cool to 60f vents during the 95f day on recirc and closed up, but no lower? I believe this is the only thing left for me to chase as i've tried everything else.. The system does have a PF condenser and is coupled well. I have the matsushita piston comp, not the sanden scroll.

Would an incorrect expansion valve cause symptoms like this?

I perfer a 2 ton valve over a 1.5 if I can get them.
