Lube and system capacities

Uncle Meathammer on Mon June 17, 2013 1:54 PM User is offline

Year: 1987
Make: Chevy
Model: G20 Van
Engine Size: 350ci
Refrigerant Type: R134
Ambient Temp: 90
Pressure Low: 0
Pressure High: 0
Country of Origin: United States

New R4 compressor, lines, condenser, Orifice tube, ready to install, but I have read conflicting info on how much lube and refrigerant to use. I have read posts claiming to use 10-20% less refrigerant when converting from R12 to R134 but have also been told to match OEM specs. Is there a definitive answer to how much R134 to use? Secondly, I have read that adding an oz or 2 more lube than OEM spec is advisable on an R4 becasue they have no sump. Spec on my van is 8oz oil and 3lbs R12. Any feedback would be appreciated.

There are at least 5 good reasons you should have kept it R-12.
