People,

No ac. comp doesnt come on. I turned the clutch by hand though, and it seems to turn OK/easily, no grinding or whatever. PSI's are static, of course, showing 110 on both high/low. Im thinkng I should first verify power going to the comp, right? I will also check fuses.........Hope Im on the right track, people.

Oh- this coincides with me disconnecting the neg terminal on the battery this weekend cuz I was doing work on the car. I simply reconnected it. Now, boom- dead comp.

OK, theres no voltage to comp. It IS an aftermarket system, I should say (was installed in 1988). Theres voltage from the source (alternator) going to a relay which also houses some wires (not sure exactly), one which is blue, which goes into the firewall, near the evaporator. That also has no voltage. Not sure what to do now, people.

Aftermarket systems are usually real simple electrically. Is there any sort of pressure switch? Also there almost certainly is a fuse somewhere.

only fuse I can tell is the one I explained above- from the alternator. Its not blown. I dont know what a pressure switch looks like, or where it might be located. The system is aftermarket but the comp is STOCK. Does that help?

Follow the lead from its source with a test light. If it goes into the relay and not out, most likely relay is not being energized. Then follow leads of relay.

Not sure what you are advising, Douglas. Should I hot wire the 'dead" blue wire at the relay (bypass it with a hot wire from battery)? Oh- theres no low pressure switch anywhere. Only fuse it betwen the powwer source (alternator) and relay.

OK, just put 12v to the relay , the terminal that goes to the comp, and click, click,click- the clutch clicks! So, now, not even sure what that means/if its even significant. Now, I will start car, apply the 12v, and see if the comp runs and measure psi's.........

MK was right- there is a fuse somewhere, and I check it and it was fine, but there was ANOTHER fuse! Sheesh. That one was blown! It fooled me. Anyway, glad thats all it was. Thanks, peple.
