air conditioner, adding oil

pagethemann2 on Mon September 02, 2013 3:12 PM User is offline

Year: 2001
Make: Isuzu
Model: Rodeo
Engine Size: 2.2L
Ambient Temp: ?
Pressure Low: ?
Pressure High: ?
Country of Origin: United States

A couple weeks past my A/C began to make noises, the air continue to cool but when driving it is as if the clutch is freezing and appears to affect the car gear shift. I believe that the A/C oil may be low but I do not know how to replace the oil. Would the oil be replaced the same as coolant - through the same port?

You need to get the pressures, both high and low... you could have a bad pulley bearing, Hard to say with the information given.. The system is under pressure, so if you want to add oil you would need an oil injector..Remember that the refrigerant and oil is not consumed, so if you have a noise,it's really not going to get better.. If it is low, you have leak that needs to be fixed..Remove the belt and spin the compressor pulley.. Ifit does not turn quietly and with no binding, the bearing is on it's way out.. hope this helps..

Condenser fans that don't work will put a lot of strain on the compressor, mainly when the car is sitting still or in slow traffic.

Hey mk378, it's nice to see you weren't one of the guys who deserted Tim like I did..lol, but life's directions do change..
Anyway, Feb 1st I totaled my 97 Jimmy.. Had to get a replacement car. Got a 98 Rodeo that was junked, the condenser fan is seized, and everyone that was junked after was seized.. I figured it was gonna be a temporary truck until another Jimmy came in, well I used up til now, fan never worked but the engine fan never allowed it to overheat... Of course cooling suffered..but my temporary truck looks like it's gonna be permanent thru the winter so I better get the 4x4 fixed....Needs a thermostat, and the intake has to come off to change that..What were they thinking...
The Zexal compressors are really bullet proof.. They pulley bearings, not so much.. And you need a puller to get the clutch off.. Trying to do it without the right puller will destroy the clutch..
I would suggest the poster remove the belt and check "all" the pulleys since he may not be mechanically inclined, or at least have someone with knowledge of AC systems check it for him.. I wouldn't doubt the fan is shot too, since all of them I've seen since I got mine had bad condenser fans....

Sometimes it is from same port and sometime from different port. I don't have exact knowledge about this model.
