How to tell if ac compressor is bad?

mollygomez on Thu September 12, 2013 9:46 AM User is offline

I hear a very faint hissing from where my cars ac compressor is but there is no trace of ac dye or oil anywhere. How do I tell if the compressor is bad?

Put a set of gauges on it and check pressure readings.

Check the circuit breakers, thermostat and fuse, whether they are in place and working properly or not. If excessive slack, damage, or breakage with blower belt then, replace it. After checking all of these, if the air conditioner still won't turn on, it is time to call for professional assistance. You might visit HVAC professionals here - HVAC Contractor Parker co

One sign is when you switch on the AC, the compressor drive belt breaks. Also a smoking clutch gives a hint.

Is the car cooling? does the compressor come on? It might not be the compressor if everything works.. An electronic leak detector or UV light and glasses are best to find the leak (If it has one) But if everything is working, look elsewhere...Hope this helps..

Get it checked with a technician if there is no leak. I suppose there is some other problem in that.
