Blows hot air.

mhfd112 on Thu February 20, 2014 10:21 AM User is offline

Year: 1999
Make: Ford
Model: Explorer
Engine Size: 5.0
Ambient Temp: 70

System looks intact with dry compressor and connections. Compressor is running and cycling every once in a while. Accumulator is sweating, but inside it is blowing hot air.

Any ideas appreciated.

first step is to recover and recharge with the correct amount of refrigerant. Then you have eliminated the high percentage problem.

Blend door actuator had a stripped gear. Installed new actuator. According to Google this is pretty common on this vehicle. Still wouldn't work. Internet said to unhook neg battery cable and try again. Voila! It worked!

If the accumulator is cold and sweaty you're getting decent refrigeration performance. The evaporator would be cold too, but as you found the air may be getting reheated.

Have to love those blend doors and heater control valves. If I don't think about them right away, I waste a lot of time wondering what is going on!

I bought a can of 134a at w**-mart that had a stop leak, oil, and dye in it. It also had a hose and a gauge, so now I'm an AC pro!
