Bosch / Behr compressor

Year: 1987
Make: BMW E30
Model: 325i
Country of Origin: United States

Been about 10 years since I dealt with one of these guys.

Looking for the system total oil amount and for future reference the oil add back amounts for Bosch/Behr wing cell compressor and recvr/dryer.
I drained old compressor and got 1.5 oz which seems low.
The recvr /dryer was out of car when brought in.

Owner got into it then got cold feet.
Original complaint was poor cooling. Pulled compressor and it did not perform well on the suck and pump test.
This was a prior convert circa 2001 from R12 and mineral to 134a and Ester 100. Yup someone was kind enough to note the date, 134, and Ester on a tag under hood.
I assume Ester is good given the years of service. Why Ester when all I see PAG from the manufacturers?

Is there an online reference that has system oil capacities and add back info for most makes, models, and years?

Thanks in advance.

John

Look here: Oil/Refrigerant Capacities

If the car has been sitting with the lines open, the oil will be contaminated with water from the humidity in air. You really should flush all the parts and replace all the oil. Ester has the advantage that it doesn't chemically react with R-12 like PAG does. This gives you the option to run R-12, which should be seriously considered since that system has the reputation of being only barely powerful enough to moderately cool the car even under optimal conditions.

Fully agree on the flush and fill. Interesting on the Ester. I wonder if the prior A/C tech was thinking if the customer was not satisfied a revert to R-12 would be relatively easy.
I trust the 134 TXV will work satisfactory as I doubt an R-12 TXV can be found?
Thanks for your insight.
Best,

John
