Hi. I've been searching the site for using dye. Looks like 1/4 oz. is plenty. I bought the bulk container of 134a with dye in it already. It says on the container to invert if you need dye. My question is....Do I just keep it inverted until a quarter oz. is shown on the scale then turn it right side up? My thinking is that if I keep it inverted for the whole charge that would be too much dye. Thank you! David.

You would invert the container for the whole charge, since the dye is dissolved in the liquid refrigerant. This poses an interesting situation since if you were to later remove some refrigerant as gas, the dye concentration in the remaining liquid will increase beyond what was intended. Usually dye is either added separately of with a 12 oz can containing the 1/4 oz of dye so you use the whole can then finish charging with plain refrigerant.
After charging, the dye dissolves in the oil and stays there even if all the refrigerant is removed or leaks out. Do not add dye again unless you flushed all the oil out to start over.
