2006 VW Passat compressor

Jag987 on Mon March 30, 2015 2:31 AM User is offline

Year: 2006
Make: VW
Model: Passat
Engine Size: 2.0
Refrigerant Type: R134a

I need some advice/help on this one. The compressor needs to be replaced. I have found this to be very common with the 06-mid 07 models. My question is I have found that it is the Zexel compressor that goes bad and was being replaced by a Sanden model. I have it quoted out using this compressor , is this the correct one? Also, does anyone know if the expansion valve is assessable from under the hood or inside the car?
Thank you!

Other things you might want to know. The condenser is being replaced, the drier is part of it and I have read that the drier on some of these has come apart. The evap and lines will be flushed with my almost new, never used Hecat flush kit. And yes, I am excited to use it. Back to the car, I *think* the control valve was stuck, but the customer got playing with it after I looked at it and broke the bolt holding the clutch off. With the known problems on this car, I am very glad he has decided to just replace everything and do it right the first time.

I bought a can of 134a at w**-mart that had a stop leak, oil, and dye in it. It also had a hose and a gauge, so now I'm an AC pro!

Well, I'm back with an update, my answers, and a very happy customer. I found here that the original compressor, a zexel/velao dcs17e is completely interchangeable with the Sanden pxe16. So either compressor will work fine. Among many things I learned that the desiccant bag in the condenser bursts causing, as might be expected, the infamous Black Death. I kept the condenser, but have not pulled the bag out to see if this is what happened but will. The evaporator and hoses were flushed with the Hecat Pulsator kit. There will be a post on that, but the spoiler is I KNOW that was the first time I properly flushed anything. The TXV is mounted on the firewall. The other big discovery, thanks to the customers, the ac system needed to be reset after the repair. This is done by placing the running car in neutral and pressing the ac button "a bunch of times." It took a long time to find this and I was getting nervous about the repairs I made. It all went back together great, but for the first time it still was not working and it was not easy to find the solution. Oh well, it is all good now.
