Refrigerant oil

Cussboy on Tue June 30, 2015 2:05 PM User is offline

Local radio station mechanic stated last week that R-12 mineral type refrigeration oil travels with the system, and that R134a does not. This sure didn't sound right to me at all, but I'm not an expert, so I didn't call in to dispute this. To me, the oil MUST be traveling around, if it didn't travel and one added an ounce to the acculmulator, an ounce to the evaporator, then it would just sit there, doesn't make any sense at all.

Perhaps he confused himself and meant that R-12 mineral type oil would not get carried along by R134a in a conversion, why the oil type must be changed in a conversion. But that's NOT what he stated on the show.

R134a does not carry well with mineral oil. As far as using the correct oil with refrigerant. I better be moving through the system of you're going to have compressor failures.
