I just bought a used CPS Pro Set vp3s single stage 3 cfm vacuum pump.
I would like to ask if this vacuum pump is very adequate for auto ac work?
It says on the specs. that it will pull down to 100 microns and other places I have seen it listed as 10 microns?
Is CPS a decent brand & can anyone tell me what the Pro Set line is ? Is it really a professional vacuum pump?
And what price did this vacuum pump sell for new?
I would really like to hear from anyone that has experience with this brand/model of vacuum pump or has knowledge of them.
What vacuum pump oil type does this unit require? Where can I buy vacuum pump oil locally?
Thank you,
Kenny
There are 25,400 microns in one inch but you can't tell 10 from 100 on a analog gauge which most MVAC techs use. As long as a pump is rated for below 250 microns the point at which boils off moisture, it's fine. I found a stray quart at O'Reilly's but that was a local hub store and no other location had any. IIRC, it was listed as an order only item at some other auto parts sites. A HVAC store would but they don't sell to the general public so online is your best bet.

Good vacuum enables moisture to boil off at ambient temperatures.
As to vacuum pump oil, why would that be different than oil used in an oil-lubed air compressor ? Someone here will know.
Vacuum pump oil is highly refined and that's all I know about it.
It totally depends on function of oils like sealing, lubricant,Cooling, flushing contaminants and noise reduction. You can buy vaccum pump oil from drain cleaning camden county nj which provides necessary pumps oil according to your vaccum pump. And they also proviode you necessary servicing for vaccum pump anuually or monthy as you want.
