The hits just keep on coming!

This vulnerability allows "malicious" Web sites to place an executable file in the startup folder when a user drags or clicks on a program masqueraded as an image, the firm says in a security alert.

The word malicious means deliberately harmful.

In the real world, if one enters a place of business, he puts himself in a vulnerable position to be sold something, these sites are essentially doing the same thing that certainly gives them the right to try to put adware or spyware on your computer, that is how they try to sell you something, I don't feel this is a malicious act. On the other hand, one could walk into a place of business simply to get out of the cold or even attempt to do some shoplifting at the cost of the business store.

I feel the word deceiving is more appropriate, you walk into a real store that has a big sign on the front that says Auto Parts, but when you walk into the store, you find that you are in an adult book store instead. It would be nice if an authority would browse through the web and delete all these sites that are not what they say they are.

Nope no updates for my machine!

Did find this amusing for the Linux OS, at least with the WINS OS a patch with not make the system unusable!.
------------------

Always read the fine print before determining whether a patch is essential. For those running Linux only on machines housed in a physically secure data center, the 2.4 and 2.6 fixes were nothing urgent--which might explain why it took about a month for the patches to be distributed. Presumably, more critical flaws would have warranted swifter action.

Should you upgrade? There's always the risk that a patch to the OS will render a box unusable. If your machines are safe behind locked doors, don't apply this patch. If they're accessible, run some tests before installing. Follow your normal upgrade cycle and you should be fine.

What have you been smoking?!
And new out of the box, how many patches does it take to make it usable?

That is a direct quote from the article from one of the current linux patches. So if anyone is smoking shit Chris it must be someone else here!!!!! Its time to come out of that dream world and realize that Linux has its problems also along with all the other OS software available! Hell I'll make it easy for you and provide the link where these comments were posted. We can go on and on about this Chris as I said before I could care less what OS you use! Linux cannot do what our company needs and that is a plain fact. Matter of fact I found it hilarious when you sent a link to a personal checking accounting software trying to compare it to MAS90 accounting and bill of materials software.

Would be nice if you tried to help someone now and then around here as I have not seen a helpful post from you in months. But that is just an opinion on my part and here is the link I promised above, http://www.nwc.securitypipeline.com/trends/17701186

Yes I know and will try to behave myself in the future! I have broken the rules twice this month, I might have to go on probation here pretty soon!

1. Actually that wasn't me - maybe K5guy.
2. You brought up Linux in this thread.
3. Patches do crash Windows- ask Nick.
4. You'd prefer to be told there's a risk after your computer becomes unusable?
5. You chose to run your business on Windows.
6. I agree that people who don't understand computers and can't follow directions should stick with Windows.
7. "will try to behave myself in future" - Then it wouldn't be any fun pulling your chain!
8. You feel I have nothing to offer - okay bye.

My Nortons antivirus upgrade expired on my other computer, so I installed a new unregistered version yesterday. I am still getting that expired sign, when you uninstalled Nortons, it still leaves a ton of stuff in the box that has to be manually removed first. I ran across this problem before, but just cannot remember which file or registry entry I had to delete first. I got on goggle and thousands are having this same problem, but no one had a solution outside of quit using Nortons. I recall it takes me about two hours to uninstall Nortons with lots of tracing around.

But before I attempted to try to do a Nortons fix search, I decided to put Firefox on that other computer as it is not subject to these spyware ads, to my surprise, Mozzila finally added a bookmark sort. Not the best, you have to sort each folder and subfolder, but at least it is an improvement. But I still haven't figured out how to sort my main directory. When you get into managing bookmarks, it sorts all the bookmarks, but when you get back into Firefox, the bookmarks are still a mess.

On my main computer, I decided to upgrade Firefox as my bookmarks are a total mess, could not find an upgrade, so I uninstalled my older version and installed the newer version. No luck, and no sort, so I uninstalled it again. This time I poked through the registry and explorer and found tons of stuff that the uninstall program of Firefox did not remove, I manually removed all those files and entries, reloaded Firefox and it finally worked like the clean installation on the other computer.

If I wasn't bugeyed enough, decided to watch the Packers get their butts wiped, but so what, no money in my pocket and I am not learning anything. With moving around I was a Bears fan, Vikings fan, and finally a Packers fan, but the Vikings did beat the Bears for whatever that is worth, but who cares. So I switched the game off and watched a movie instead.

Ha, the movie I watched was called Antitrust about a super large software company trying to get control of the world, the head of that company looked exactly like Bill Gates. His code writers were all kids, but his key software was stolen from other kids where instead of hacking into their computers, his security force, all bad guys installed video cameras so they could hand write the code off their screens. This guy would have these kids murdered so he can steal their code, but what a movie to watch while I am having problems with programs.

I see Outlook Express solved the virus problem but deleting any attachment period. I composed a one line document with word pad and sent that to myself and opened it with Express, it was deleted. I also see thousands are angry at Nortons, maybe its time to dump this company.
