A bad idea made worse...

Just when you thought the automakers were running low on stupid.....

"The air conditioning compressor istelf is a hybrid, with both engine- and motor- driven portions. The electric side allows the A/C to continue functioning when the V6 is shut down for extended periods"

(Road and Track review of the 2005 accord hybrid, 12/2004)

So now you can have shaft leaks, and electrical problems, all in ONE compressor.

The car is full of other complicated useless garbage too - like active noise cancelling to counteract the noise from shutting down 3 cylinders on the engine...... sheesh! what happened to basic transportation?

In automotive applications, I love useless complicated garbage, and their associated problems. Geez, without them, I'd be out of work:

Basic transportation? Alive and well in the form of a 1972 Plymouth Valiant 318 cid V-8 with Torqueflite transmission. It does have a non-essential power steering that works even if its bleeding hydraulic fluid. Drive it to from work every day. Did have to replace the alternator 4 years ago, and that took 15 minutes and cost me less tha $50. Water pump last spring cost $51 plus some hassle to R&R. One of these days I ought to repack the front wheel bearings and take alook at the brakes. Been 70,000 miles since last brake service
